First Appointment- When?

Hi ladies. I’m 37 & had a missed miscarriage in August. I am currently 5 weeks 2 days. I had a blood test at my GP last Thursday to confirm & am going back tomorrow for another. I called my OBGYN today to ask when I should set up an appt for my first visit. The receptionist was rude, & when I say rude- I mean snarky rude! After telling her the situation, she rolled her eyes over the phone (I heard it! Lol) & asked me when I wanted to come in. I told her, I’m asking u- when should I come in? She told me past 8 weeks. I explained again that I had a MMC & I’m 37 & the doc advised for me to contact him when I got the BFP. So she set me up for an appt for Feb 12, where I will be 7 weeks 1 day. Does this sound right for any of you? I just want to make sure this being done correctly for obvious concerns. Thanks so much!

I'll be 41 in March. Hx of 4 losses two were 2nd trimester last one was a missed miscarriage. I carried baby 3 weeks after heart beat stopped. I'm 5w 5d and being told to come in on the 21st. I'll be 7w6d. So regardless of history seems to be the standard

I’m 37 and had a MMC....because of that I waited to be seen until 12 weeks.  Most do 8 weeks.  I didn’t want early ultrasounds or probing and all that.  It’s up to you.

I had two missed miscarriages consecutively before my BFP (I’m 36). I was told to call right away and I did, but blood was enough for now. I asked after my second miscarriage what the expectations would be. My doctor told me if I come in too early, there may not be anything we can see on an ultrasound. And that would cause me stress that I don’t need and the potential baby doesn’t need. I doubt any doctor would see you every week, so you’d just have to wait more wondering if there was going to be a heartbeat in what you saw too early. 
I went in at 7w 5d and we saw heartbeats (twins!). From what I read on here every doctor is different, but my doctor’s reasoning makes sense to me. If they’ve checked your blood levels and they’re fine, this may be why the doc is waiting. 
I am sorry that the receptionist was so rude. If you don’t want to work with the public, especially in a highly sensitive medical field, find a different job!

I would call and ask to speak to the doctor directly. Confirm that the appointment is an okay timeframe and see if there’s any testing you should get beforehand. I get that these office ladies deal with patients all day but they seriously need some lessons is professionalism and compassion sometimes!

Yes it’s exactly what I’m going through. I’m 37, had 2 recurrent miscarriages last summer and fall, and am currently guessing I’m around 4 weeks one day. Had an HCG quant done today which put me at 67 at my primary, called my ob and actually spoke to his nurse, who told me that they still wanted to see me at 8 weeks, and that anything “ that would happen good or bad “ would happen by then. So they are not going to order a follow up HCG lvl test, and I’m waiting until the 25th for an ultrasound and appointment I guess. God grant us PATIENCE!

That sounds right. After I got pregnant again after a missed miscarriage that’s about when I came in. I also strongly advocated for more frequent ultrasounds up until 20 weeks which they did.

It sucks, because as important it is to us, the docs don’t see it as a big deal. I had a miscarriage at 10 weeks at 36 yrs old. I got pregnant a month later and I don’t think I saw the doc until 10 weeks. For my own piece of mind, I got a private scan around 8 weeks to make sure the baby was growing.  So, it does sound normal. I hear they don’t do anything different until two, even three miscarriages. Good luck mama!

I wasn’t seen till about 7 weeks after I miscarried. Then the next appointment they gave me was at 14 weeks. 
It’s because they can’t see the baby if it’s too early so 7 weeks seems okay
