Super nervous//waiting until the 14th
Valentine’s Day is not Valentine’s Day for us this year. It’s the day we find out exactly what’s going on with our little boy.
I went in for my NT scan at 11w5d almost two weeks ago. During the scan, the doctor explained that she feels like the baby may have gastroschisis, but it was a little too early to tell.
For those of you who do not know, gastroschisis is when the baby is born with some, or a lot, of organs on the outside of the belly.
The doctor explained to me that all babies start with the organs on the outside, and typically by 12 weeks, they have moved to the proper place. She booked me to come in on Feb 14th to look, because if the organs are still out, there is no chance they will go in before baby is born.
She said she was very unsure if the organs were out at my scan in the first place. That it “sort of looks like it, but sort of looks like the umbilical cord is just oddly coiled right now”
She’s a maternal fetal medicine specialist, but I’m hoping she’s wrong or that I just went in a little too early. I hope that on the 14th, they tell us everything is okay with our little boy.
If our baby does have gastroschisis, it is very treatable. It still breaks my heart. He’d be in the NICU at least 6 weeks, and as the mother of an 18 month old (who will be 2 when baby is born) I don’t know how I’m suppose to divide my time with both kids. I have no help with my son while my hubby is at work, and being in the US, he isn’t granted anything over a week off for paternity leave.
I’m sorry for ranting. I’m nervous. I hope everything is okay and time is just standing still.
