When can you a toddler bed?

I’m thinking ahead here. My first born is a peanut still (9 months) and he will be 17 months when this one comes along. I’m starting to think about what to do about the crib situation. Should I get another crib? Or will he be old enough to sleep in a toddler bed and I should just get one of those and use his crib for the new baby? He’s a good sleeper and I don’t want to disturb him more than necessary when the new baby arrives, so maybe it’s just best to plan on two cribs? Baby will be in a bassinet for a while anyways, so that’s at least a couple of extra months where I don’t need the crib. 
Any experience or perspectives are appreciated.

Yes get another crib. My daughter I moved into a crib at 2 but my animal son I kept in a crib as long as possible...almost three. He’s in a toddler bed and the first three months were a nightmare. Keep them in a crib as lonnnng as possible

My very big and very active and adventurous 2 year 5 month old son is still in a crib and hasn’t even tried to get out! I’m gonna keep him in there as long as possible!

It depends on your kiddo! My sons are 21 months apart and I moved my eldest to a toddler bed before his brother arrived. He was a WILD child and got up 20-50 times per night 😑

My toddler transitioned to a toddler bed when she was 26 months old. She probably could have sooner. If you’re doing a bassinet for the first few months, then your other little one will be about 20 months. That could potentially be old enough for a toddler bed. That’s a tough one...

My son is wild and a little over 2 years... he’s still in a crib and has never tried to climb out of it.. he’s just a wild sleeper and I don’t trust him to not fall out of a bed

My daughter moved to toddler bed when she was 15 months. She loved it way more than a crib:) SO i recommend for you to get a toddler bed.

We moved my daughter at 12 months. Best decision we made. She was too young to ask for water or a snack. Now she is 2 and goes to bed without a fuss. Just make sure the room is baby proof of course. I should also note we don’t have toys in her room they are in the playroom. This may make a difference.

My guy is 17 months now. He is still in a crib. He’ll be 2 when this one comes, and we’ll have this one in our room for the first six months. I’m hoping to transition to a bed during that time.

Mine will be 17 months apart too! I’m also trying to figure this bed situation out. My first slept in our room until she was 6 months, so I might do that with the second too? And then move him/her to the crib and by that point my first will be almost 2 so maybe move her to a toddler bed then. I’m not sure yet! I’m not making any purchases on any new beds any time soon

Yes you could move them into a toddler bed but be prepared for them to be able to get out whenever they want. A convertible crib may be a good option for you to purchase and put them in the that until they are attempting to climb out then convert it to a toddler bed. The new baby can use the old crib until they outgrow it or are attempting to climb out
