getting tonsils out as an adult

finally got into the ENT today because my lymph nodes have been killing me and slightly bleeding. I've been have crazy tonsil stones coming out. thanks to doctor Google I was convinced I had cancer.

went into my appointment with the mind set I would need my tonsils out. and Yup! they are calling back next week to set up surgery.

other than having my wisdom teeth pulled when I was in high school I've never had surgery. anyone else had tonsils out as an adult? tips? experiences? how long did recovery last for you?
