Would you still try to correct the behaviour of your adult child?

If yes, would you go about it the same way as you did when they were under 18? Would you just talk to them or would you still discipline them?

Yes. Whenever I am watching these reality tv shows starting teen or 20 something boys I cringe at their behavior. I hope I can kindly let my son know when his behavior is out of line but it is really his responsibility to change it. You can’t discipline an adult. At this point you can only really guide, support and teach as best you can.

I think oncw they’re 18 it’s depending on the behavior. I will always talk to my kids, and call them on their misbehavior. I’m 28 and my mom still does to me. As far as discipline, that’s a hard one if they’re an adult. Some lessons they just have to learn.

Absolutely not. As soon as my child became an adult (that includes a minor taking on adult responsibilities early) I would start treating them like an adult. If a younger friend of mine did something I thought was stupid, I would tell them, but they have free will and autonomy, I would do the same thing with my adult child.

Like chewing with their mouth open? Or like I notice they drink too much? Either way…Yes.
Assuming they are adults out living on their own, I would just talk to them about it like a peer. And they’d roll their eyes at my forever mom self and remind me they are adults.
Then I’d lie awake at night alternately worrying how this will impact their life and telling myself they’re grown and I need to let it go.
If they are still a teen living completely dependently on me, then I’d be more likely to discipline just as if they are 17.

I would talk with them and give advice/tough love. I’ll always love them, but I’m not enabling them if they’re making harmful choices. They’re going to hear what I think, I don’t care if they don’t want to hear it. My job is to be their mom, not their friend.

What point is it crossing the line? For example, withdrawing love, sulking, using guilt and manipulation, and masking it all as tough love? (My parent’s method) then no,never. But being honest that I’m not happy with the direction they are going in or the life choices they’re making is something I’ll always do and I hope my kids will be open to listening and ultimately make the right decision (mind you i would only step in if they are headed down a really dark path, with someone abusive etc)

I feel like if that behavior wasn’t corrected at a young age,  then you’re gonna have an asshole of an adult child for the future. Typically kids that were raised “correctly” (morals, values, character traits etc) as adults chances are they’re not going to be acting up. 
I don’t think it’s wrong to advise your adult child when u think a decision they made wasn’t the wisest. at the same time that’s ultimately up to them to heed your advice. But again, that goes back to how u raised them, if they value your decision making or not.

Depends on what that behaviour is. If it's something like leaving the toilet seat up, I'd shake my head and continue on with my day. If it's dangerous behaviour, then I'd go to the ends of the earth to help. But I wouldn't ground them or something like that, come on now. Once they fly the nest it's time to wake the fuck up and take care of themselves. I'll always be there to help if needed but I'm not going to tell my 20 year old child they can't go out with friends because they did something stupid.

I said no because I am not going to dicipline my grown child. I will talk to them and tell them how bad they are ducking life up for themselves. I will try to show him the correct path and hope he decides for himself to live good. Once they are adults all we can do is guide them. Their time of being children is over.
