Should I go to prom?

Just trying to find opinions on going to prom or not. I go to an online school, so I don't know anyone going. We're allowed to bring a plus one, but I'm not dating anyone and feel awkward about asking one of my friends. We're also having money trouble in my family, and I don't already have something I could wear. Hopefully if you comment you could give me some advice to help with these problems. Thanks in advance!
