Delaying cord cutting & bath?

Could anyone give me more information on delaying cord cutting, and delaying the first bath? Like how long should you wait to cut the cord, how long does it take the Vernix to absorb into baby’s skin, should I not let them wipe baby off as soon as he comes out, etc.

Hi! I talked to my OB about this. They do delayed cord clamping anywhere from 1 minute up until the cord stops pulsating (of course this also depends on mom and baby’s health) and they do all tests and Apgar screening while baby is on moms chest at the hospital I am delivering at. I also talked to her about delayed bathing and they suggest waiting to bathe until baby has a good latch (can be up to 24-48 hours in some cases) and the nurses can do some spot cleaning 😊

I don’t know about the cord but my hospital said they were going to delay the bath until atleast 8 hours but it was up to me when she got one after that and I waited til 30-32 hours

It’s normal practice in my hospital to do delayed cord clamping for up to 3 minutes. As for the first bath I didn’t give my we boy his until he was 2 weeks, unless they have an explosive nappy and really need one it’s best to hold off. I give my little one top and tail wash each morning with just hot water and cotton wool before his first bath. I didn’t add any soaps to the bath until he was 4 weeks

My hospital does delayed cord clamping as a default because of the proven benefits.
They also don't bathe baby at the hospital anymore unless the parents request it since letting the vernix soak in is incredibly good for babies immune system and skin!

It’s become a common practice for delaying cord cutting for the benefits usually from 2-5 min or until the cord stops pulsing.
I delayed the bath 48 hours and then didn’t wash his hands because they like to smell the fluid still in them and use that for comfort.

I am planning to delay cord clamping until the placenta stops pulsating so he gets all the blood from it. I also want immediate skin to skin time so that he can latch right away. I read a great article about the "golden hour" after birth and if you plan on breastfeeding its good to have the baby put on your stomach right away so they can feed and make that initial latch, which will make breastfeeding much easier.

I delayed the first bath until after the cord fell off somewhere between 7-13 days with my three kids. I had to have csections with all for, so could only delay the cord clamping for a minute as it's really cold in the theatre and they have to get things done.

I don’t have info on cord clamping, but my hospital typically does the first bath about 12 hours after delivery.
