Epidural or General Anesthesia?

I am due to have my repeat cesarean tomorrow morning. Which i’m pretty excited about, because i can finally meet my baby. Buuuuuttttt i’m stuck between getting the Epidural Anesthesia or the General Anesthesia. Any mommies have a repeat cesarean? Which one did you choose and why?

Wouldn’t general anesthesia mean you’re asleep? Given the choice I would definitely want to be awake and aware during the birth of my child.

I had general anesthesia for a previous surgery and I was out of it for the rest of the day. I can’t imagine trying to care for a newborn in that fog and not remembering the first day with my baby. Unless you need it for a medical reason I would opt with the less invasive epidural. I had an epidural with my first born and don’t have any regrets about it.

You have a choice? Interesting. I had general anesthesia because I didn’t qualify for an epidural. 
When mom goes under, baby goes under, so they do as much prep as possible before administering anesthesia. Including the catheter. 
Our son needed some breathing assistance for about a half hour likely due to the anesthesia (he was 37 weeks so that may also have been a factor). 
Some hospitals won’t allow the partner to be in the room for a general anesthesia surgery. My husband was told he couldn’t be there, but then they changed their mind about 1 min before I went under. He had to stand in the corner away from everything and everyone though. 
You miss your child’s first breath, first cry, first moments. Skin to skin is delayed until you are conscious (my husband did skin to skin while I was in recovery). Our son was a couple hours old, cleaned off, and swaddled by the time I met him. That has always been a bit heartbreaking for me. 
It’s also weird to fall asleep pregnant and wake up not pregnant. Epidurals scare me because I have heard too many horror stories about life long side effects. But thousands have them without issues too and general anesthesia has its own risks. 
That’s a tough call to make, but I would probably say if you can be conscious, to go that route.
