How do twins work? Lol

Has anyone heard of the statement of when twins don’t run in the family, you’re more likely to produce identical twins since you release one egg and if it does run in your family, you produce fraternal twins since you can release two eggs..?

Also, does the male’s sperm have any affect on producing twins?

My friend recently found out she was pregnant (5w6d) and her hormone level is at 17,500. The dr said for it being that high, it’s a slight possibility she could be carrying twins.
