Educate yourself!! 😤🤦🏼‍♀️

So today I was doing a little bit of grocery shopping at my local Walmart. Just a few small items and I was out of there. Well, this lady and her young daughter were in an isle that I needed to go down. I have a service dog. She is a very large Great Dane because I need her for walking stability because I have severe dizzy spells randomly and she keeps me from falling and harming myself. She also has to treat my anxiety attacks when my dizzy spells occur because it scares me.

Well, I guess this ladies daughter was scared of dogs and started freaking out about my dog. I kept my distance as I could hear and see she was scared. I looked at her and said “don’t worry sweetie, she’s a very nice dog, she won’t hurt you and I’ll keep her over here away from you” and smiled at her. That seemed to calm her down a bit, but I guess lite a match in the mother. She instantly began yelling at me that I was a disgusting person for even having a dog in the store and for bringing the dog anywhere near a child that is afraid. And just kept going. I’m use to people not liking me having a dog in the store, but she is a medical have to have for me. She then went and found an employee and “reported” me saying my dog was growling at her child and being aggressive. At that point another shopper stepped up and said that that was bullshit, she had seen the whole thing and the dog hadn’t made a single noise and was being very well behaved. The employee said that legally they can’t do anything because it’s a service animal and that it was in fact not being aggressive. This lady then stormed out of the store and called the police on me!!! At this point they checked the security footage and proved that my dog was behaved the whole time, was not being aggressive and the lady got told that 1. It is illegal to harass someone with a service dog and 2. It is illegal to file a false statement and that if she did it again she would be facing charges.

This just pisses me off so bad! Educate yourself on service dogs before acting or opening your mouth! I don’t take my dog around with me for fun. I do it because she saves my life. I get that people are scared of dogs, but law states that a fear of dogs is not a reason for service dog to not be allowed. Take time to teach your kids about service dogs and other dogs as well. You and your. Hold should learn how to read a dogs body language. I am fluent in my dogs body language and if she cats out of line at all I will correct her. This whole thing over something so small! All I needed was a bag of rice and I would have been out of her hair, but no, she needed to make a scene.
