I want my son to be the first to hold his little brother or sister (well apart from me and my partner). He'll be 2 and a half when baby is born, he is very loving so i have no worries. We plan to just give him lots of encouragement and praise and obviously i will be taking the actually weight of the baby when he's holding. 
We bought him a toy baby and a pram for christmas to get him used to a baby and he's so caring around it. He enjoys giving it a bottle so it will be fun including him in helping feed the baby.

It depends who the kid is! I would let my niece hold the baby even though she is only 2 1/2 (with a boppy and sitting with an adult) but not any other child that isn’t  family.

Probably only my daughter who will be 4 1/2. I want her to be the first to hold baby aside from husband and I! I do have a lot of close friends with kids that will likely visit tho and I’m not against it as long as they’re being held with the help/supervision of an adult. AND hands are washed!

I will have a 4.5 year old and an almost 7 year old. If they want to, I’d love for them to hold the baby! Wash hands, sit back on a couch/chair, swaddle the baby and lay it in their lap, and have a parent right next to them just in case. That’s what we did with my oldest when my youngest was a baby, although he didn’t want to hold him until he was a few days old.
