In the way that they are the parent of your child. You kind of have to care a little bit about the parent of your child. That doesn’t mean you still love them or want to be with them… it just means that you care about their well-being because if they are not good, your child might not be good.

No just because they have a child together doesn’t make them always care for each other. I know people who have children together and they absolutely hate each other. It really depends on so many things about how there relationship was and is to make them still care for each other. But no I don’t believe having a child with someone instantly makes you care for that person your whole life.

my ex and i grew up together and have a child together. we are no longer in love and have since healed from our romantic relationship (ended 6 years ago). we still care about each other as friends and co-parents.
i care because:
1. taking away the romantic love, what’s left is a wonderful human being and friend and co-parent
2. we are mature, level-headed adults who want similar things for our child, so even living in separate households, we have consistent rules and values that we share with her. that gives her stability, which is important to us both (it helps a lot that we grew up together and share similar values between the two of us)
3. if he’s in trouble and needs help, i’m there for him. his wellbeing affects my daughter’s wellbeing also. even if we didn’t have a child together, he’s a person worthy of respect and i would care for him as a friend
4. he and i both have a mutual feeling of friendship and neither of us can ever see each other as lovers again. already hard for either of us to imagine that we once were as in love as we were. i guess this is what true healing and moving on feels like. it’s a unique relationship that i’m grateful for
basically, we are like family. my boyfriend is very open minded and understanding and they work together to take care of my daughter when i’m at work or not around

If they are honest, responsible, good, loving parent then it's great to have someone you can trust and communicate with. It's also a different kind of "care" towards that person (not a romantic attraction) 
If they are annoying, unbearable, but can contribute, then I would say not exactly. Mostly because of how they always make you feel. If they are still good with the child then it's also a mix, but again it's not romantic. 
If they are a piece of shit, like a real piece of shit, then hell no. Im talking about the assholes who in some shape abuse everyone including your child. Those are the people you'll hunt down first if the purge was real. 
It depends on the ex and how they treated the child. If there is "care" towards the other parent it's not romantic. (Unless given reason otherwise)

My daughter's father and I were together for nearly 8 years, we started dating when I was 16. He was addicted to pills, made my life so incredibly difficult, but has always been a good dad. I am proud to say that leaving him was the best decision I ever made, he got clean, and we are going through custody now. We agree on most things and do our best for our daughter. Even though I don't like him, I will always care about him, merely because my daughter loves him he is her father, if anythibg happened to him it would hurt her. I never want my daughter to hurt, so yes I care about him, but only for her.
