Daycare?

Question

I'm only taking 6 weeks for maternity leave (anything more than that will be unpaid). My baby is scheduled to start daycare next week and I'm having such mixed feelings. On one hand I'm wanting to get back to "normal" and have structure to my days, on the other hand I can't help but wonder if it's too soon to send him off. I also can't tell if I'm just having separation anxiety... 💔 He'll be the youngest baby at daycare. All others are 3+ months. Any input for me? ☹️

Mine went at 9 weeks and he absolutely LOVES daycare. Sure, he got the stomach bug his first week which was really hard, and hand foot and mouth a few months later, but he was barely sick this winter (all toddlers have an on going runny nose right!?). I bawled the first week but it’s been so great for him. He’s 20 months now and I still send him every day even though I’m on leave til April. He’s social and has not had one bit of separation anxiety. My biggest fear was he wouldn’t know I was mom but let me reassure you, he has always known that I am mom ☺️

Where do you live? 6vweeks is very young indeed to be leaving your baby. That must be a very difficult thing for you so wonder you are struggling. 
I took 13mo with my first and still it broke my heart to have to leave her at nursery. Is tgere no way for you to take some unpaid mat leave? 
Your baby is only a baby once and it dies go by awfully fast

Ugh same. I start back Tuesday (kindergarten teacher) and my baby is only 8weeks and it sucks. She’s going to an in home place with only 3 other kids but still. I hate that I’ll be missing my baby’s milestones while I’m caring for other people’s kids 😫

Yes! The first day is so hard. I cried on my way to work after I dropped off my daughter. The woman who takes care of her during the day sent me lots of updates throughout the day and when I picked her up, she had no idea that she had just gone a whole day without her mommy. My son will start going to daycare with her in about a month, and though I'm sad to leave them, they (and mama) will be fine. :) See if your daycare has cameras or an app or something that lets you check in on them from time to time!

It’s going to be much harder on you than the baby. You have to do what you have to do. I’m assuming you’re in the US... our maternity leave policies are terrible! And the baby is going to get sick a lot. First year of daycare is the worst.
