Stopping BC

I stopped taking birth control about 6 months ago. I'm 28 and have been on the pill since 17 with a 6 month break maybe 2 years ago. After stopping my period came 4 weeks later and has been pretty regular until last month. January I seemed to start on time with light brown bleeding which ended up last a week then 3 days of a heavy period followed by a few more days of light brown bleeding. So basically some type of bleeding for 2 weeks :/ During the light stage I only under a panty liner. What is going on. My husband and I are trying to concieve and this will be my first child.
