Anyone tried copper IUD?

I really want to try a non hormonal birth control because I’ve always had side effects with regular birth control. The copper IUD sounds like a good idea but I’m kind of nervous to have a piece of metal in my uterus. Anyone ever had one and liked it? I heard it can be painful if you’ve never had a baby but I plan on getting one at my 6 week postpartum visit.

I've had the copper iud twice for a combined 4 years. Never had any issues. No side effects except spotting a few days before & after my period. My period itself wasnt heavy or painful but it was kind of annoying to have the spotting before & after. 
Insertion doesnt hurt & neither does the IUD itself. You cant feel it once its inside. 
The strings that hang out of the cervix did bother my husband during sex but I got them trimmed by my doctor & everything was fine after that. 
And I never had problems conceiving after having it removed. 😁 Always happened on the 2nd cycle for me.

I had copper for 5 years. Just took it out end of last year. No problems at all.

I had it and loved it. I cant do the extra hormones either. It didnt hurt I had mine placed at my 6w pp. I had it removed after my son turned a year and got pregnant a month after removal (I did have a mc though).

I had it for about 2 years and got it taken out. My period cramps were like labor pains, my period lasted a week and I had bleeding in between my periods. I also kept getting BV with it and once I got it taken out I have had 0 issues.

I had the mirena and when I met with my doctor, they said they were similar regarding getting them inserted. I never had a child and it wasn’t awful. Just felt like really strong cramps when it got inserted.
