Grapefruit Ovaries?!

Hi all, Starting my first round of IVF soon, scheduled to start stims on March 2nd!! At my ultrasound yesterday I had 18 follicles on my right ovary and 28 on my left...did I mention I have PCO?? 😬 Is this too many follicles? She told me that my ovaries could go from the size of a walnut to the size of a grapefruit🍊!!! I’m blessed to have so many potential eggs but terrified of OHSS. Anyone else in my same boat? Either with stim date or large number of follicles? We also have male factor so maybe God knew we’d need a lot of chances to get one to work 🙏🏼. Fingers crossed 🤞!

Hi babe! Make sure you stay super hydrated!!!!! I was at risk for ohss from my high rising estrogen levels. My nurse had me drinking electrolyte drinks from first day of stims until my next period ( I did a frozen cycle but if you do fresh cycle continue until after you are pregnant since pregnancy makes it way worse) drink things like coconut water and pedialyte or gastrolyte (I found these have less sugar and cause the least bloat), Powerade and Gatorade (Gatorade gave me more sugar headaches while Powerade has vitamin b6 in it which helped since I was nauseous as well but either are great. My nurses stressed drinking 2-4 liters a day and since I was so nauseous and had little appetite they said it was more important for me to drink then eat if I couldn’t do both (I have severe stomach issues). I have PCOS as well and had “too many follicles to count” on both sides before stims. I had 36 eggs retrieved and had a mild case of OHSS, I looked four months pregnant for a week and then it was fine.

We have male factor and I have a lot of follicles too according to the doctor. It is a good thing but I am scared of getting OHSS too! Once I start stims, my doctor said I will have a lower dose than the average person to avoid hyperstimulation. Best of luck to you!!

I don’t think you can really have too many antral follicles. I’ve always had about 50 or more at my baseline scans but the number that develop and go on to produce a mature egg all depends on the treatment plan. I got 26 eggs in my first retrieval and 21 in my second. Egg and embryo quality was better in my second retrieval and that was without using Luveris like I did in the first retrieval. Who knows 🤷🏻‍♀️ Good luck 🍀

I have PCO2as well, they pulled 35 eggs from me, I didn't have a problem with ohss.

I had 30 eggs retrieved. I felt pretty sick for a bit. But it's all worth it.
