My doctor said that if I have gestation diabetes my baby is going to have bigger shoulders... Did she mean that baby is gonna be bigger, as in overweight?

I had gestational diabetes with my second but was able to manage it with diet and activity alone. My son was born at 37w 6lbs 9oz and delivery was a breeze, no issues at all. 
I think it depend on how compliant you are with treatment and how bad it is. As it what type of treatment you need, like i said, mine was diet controlled but some women require oral medication or even insulin injections. 
But gestational diabetes doesn’t automatically mean big baby or delivery issues but it does increase your chances of those things

I had gestational diabetes 3 of my 4 pregnancies and no they didn't have wide shoulders. If you manage your blood sugars properly then baby should be fine. It's if you ignore the diet and at home testing that it can be a problem.

Well that makes sense why it felt like my doc was fighting my daughters shoulder to get out me lol. 39wk with GD she was 7lb14oz and it felt like he had to tug up and down to get here out. I only gained after losing so much from sickness around 13lb

Babies born to moms with gestational diabetes tend to be bigger. Fancy medical term is macrosomia (if you want to look it up). And these babies' birth weight tend to be heavier than 9 1/2 pounds.
If you get diagnosed with gestational diabetes, it is manageable.
When testing for gestational diabetes, the doctor/midwife usually make you drink this small bottle of sugary stuff (which has all sorts of suspicious ingredients) and test your blood sugar in an hour or two.
But instead of doing that test, I opted to just check my blood sugar when I first wake up and an hour after each meal for a week. It gives me a better idea what to eat and what to avoid. I found out when I ate out at a thai restaurant and then another time mexican food the other time, my blood sugar went high in the 160s-180s. And while it is scary to poke yourself 4x a day, I always told myself it was for the baby and I got over the one second of ouch real quick.
