I say yes, and I'm a college professor. Some people are not made for it, plus it depends on the kind of career that you want. I wouldn't insist that my children go to college, but I would want for them to find a career that they enjoy and that can sustain them in the long run. I would hope that they would still be ambitious people who follow their dreams, whether those dreams take them to college or somewhere else.

When I was a freshmen in high school, there was a big push to go to a 4 year college and get a bachelor's degree...here I am with one and I can't find a well paying job in my field (animal science) which could possibly be caused by where I live now. But I wish I would have gone to trade school because that's where the jobs are! Seriously considering going back after husband graduates law school :)

I wish it was ok for kids to not go to college, but these days, it's really hard to get a job without a college degree. Even if you can get a good job at first, that doesn't mean you will be able to do that job the rest of your life. I know a lot of people that are looking for jobs because they didn't go to college and they got let go because some one more qualified came in (after working for the company for over 10 years).

I answer other. I think it totally cool if my kids decided that she didnt want to go to college, because college isnt for every body. However I think I would strongly encourage her to at least take up some type of trade that would allow her make a respectable living.

If i could go back knowing what i know now, I’d take a year off to figure out my shit and work for that year...
Instead i enrolled in a course that i hated, dropped out, went into some other course, dropped out, then another course, dropped out completely blew all of the money my parents saved my whole life for me to go to college AND wracked up myself a bunch of debt all for nothing. Then i went to delivering pizzas and started back from the bottom. Yeah!

There's a serious shortage of skilled trade workers in the U.S. (think like welder, mechanic, seamstress, basically anything you need a skill but not necessarily a college education for). A lot of these still are easiest to get into with a 2 year education though. But don't waste time and money on a bachelor's that you don't really want. Take some time if you need to and figure out what sort of career you actually want. If your parents seriously insist on you going to college see if you can satisfy them with community college, a lot of them have trade classes and it's inexpensive enough that you could take a semester or two to just poke around and figure out what you might want to do.

i graduated high school just about a year ago now. i want to be a cook/chef, so i didn’t feel the need to go to college- i’d rather work and get real experience in a real kitchen. i worked my ass off for about 8 months and managed to save $8,000.. and now i’m taking the summer off! i look at all my friends and they’re horribly stressed because of college, never get enough sleep, several of them have started taking meds for depression/anxiety since starting college, none of them have any money! like literally, my friend in speed school did not have any money to buy herself dinner so i venmo’d her $10. so based off my experience, and depending on what you want to do with your life, fuck college! lol. i’m totally happy, financially stable, and i feel prepared to go forth with my free education.

Not going to college is perfectly okay. I have a brother on the autism spectrum, and I can't see him going to college (not for a long time, anyway) until he can answer these two questions:
First, how will you deal with all that unstructured time when you're not in class? 
Second, as the workload increases throughout each semester, how will you deal with the increasing stress?
Those are the two most pressing issues I can think of. I think he could make it as an undergrad, but he'd do a lot better as he gets older.
