Is early intervention given by public or private organizations?

Hello community! 
I'm about to move back to the US after six years living abroad. I have a 6 months old baby boy with DS, and I'd like to know what to do upon my arrival to hook him up with an early intervention program.
Can anybody give me a hand on this?

Every state is different, but typically there are state-based early intervention services for children 3 and under with disabilities. I would try to establish a primary care physician near your new hometown before you arrive to the US. This provider should be able to direct you to the services in your area, and will often help you navigate them and sign up for them as needed.

Our pediatrician also led us in the right direction for early intervention. I also recommend contacting a Down Syndrome support organization. They can provide you with a lot of great resources and also lead you towards an early intervention. 
We live in California and it is provided by the state. My daughter has an infant development specialist that she meets with once a week. She also had a physical therapist that she worked with for 8 months.
