Wake baby for feeds?

Question

I’m a new mom and my baby is 9 days old. I was told to feed on demand which I do but to not let him sleep past 3 hours. His birth weight was 5lbs 13oz and at his 1st week doctor appointment he weighed 6lbs 2 oz. Just wondering if I should be waking him up to feed him or let him show me when he’s hungry. I’ve read mixed things. Any advice helps! :)

I woke my kid up every 2 hours for the first 2 weeks. Then he turned around and woke me up every 2 hours for the next 15 months. I say to let him sleep. Their paybacks can suck.

Only if your doctor is worried about your babes weight gain! They need sleep to grow 💪🏻

I NEVER woke my baby for feedings, not even when he was a newborn, he eats on demand and he’ll eat when he’s hungry. If your baby is gaining good weight you shouldn’t be concerned

I’ve never woken any of my babies for feeding except in the hospital to help get my milk to come in and make sure they were getting nutrients. Once my milk came in I let them tell me when they were hungry.

I feel like its a personal preference I'm the type to wait until baby is hungry I've never woken them up for a feed can't lie there were a few times where I was like omg the baby has been sleeping for what feels like forever should I wake her up to eat so yeah like i said I think its just a person preference

I woke my daughter every 2-3 hours to feed her until she doubled her birth weight. That’s what I was told to do by my dr

I was content with what our pediatrician said, I think it was a happy medium. Once she was at birth weight, we were to let her be our alarm clock between 8pm and 8am, no need to wake her. Then, during the day we would wake her every 2/3 hours. Now at two months she basically does it on her own.

By day nine your milk has come in and if the weight gain is ok, then definitely let him sleep & enjoy the rest because you never know how long this'll last!

Never wake a sleeping baby! My son slept 14 hours straight without waking up his entire life even as a newborn and I never woke him up
