Am I wrong for wanting to know his past?

Question

So my boyfriend was previously married. However, he avoids talking about his past marriage. I don't care about his past but I just wanna know what went wrong so I make sure the same scenario won't happen again. My main point is to learn from mistakes to make ours succeed but he gets so mad when I mention it or ask him questions. Am I wrong for wanting to understand what went wrong in his previous marriage?
I'm even considering contacting his ex wife and asking her. I started feeling that he is hiding something serious

Why is it so important to know his past? You’re overly concerned and definitely would be stepping out of bounds contacting his ex wife.. just let things be if he isn’t being shady why make up a problem for you both. Sounds like your a lil insecure.

Don’t ever approach the ex, that’s a violation of trust, and you’re going behind his back.
If he doesn’t want to talk about it then he’s either ashamed of something that HE did, or the breakdown of the marriage is too hurtful to talk about.
Don’t force him to talk about it, all the matters is that from the point of your relationship, and onwards, he’s honest, and you both are happy.

Don't contact the ex! Omg. Whatever happened between them was between them. You can't prevent or learn from their relationship because it wasn't you two.

If he wants to tell you then he will. When i got with my husband, he wasn't into telling me every relationship that went sour. He was married before. He told me he was divorced, he had a son with her, and he had a son (he has custody of) with an ex girlfriend. He was very open and forthcoming with the ex girlfriend stuff because their son was becoming my son. *she's not in his life...I'm his mom*
When he was ready, we talked about his ex wife. There wasn't anything for me to learn to make our relationship work. He had to learn from his mistakes from that and learn from hers as well. Same with my ex's. I was very open with my ex husbands because there are 5 kids of mine that he was going to be around lol 
I didn't tell him everything all at once tho. Nobody wants to admit to abuse, rape, etc. It took me a while (probably about a year) to tell him everything. He knew the basics of abuse, but he didn't know the extent early on.

Give him time. Be honest that you would like to know about it, but do not force him to open up. Don't make it your goal to find out. You may not like what you hear. 💁 whatever happened between them has nothing to do with your relationship with him. LEAVE HIS EX ALONE! You'll wind up single if you contact her.
