Breastfeeding, no period, TTC

I’m breastfeeding my 16 month old son and we want to start trying for our next baby within a few months. I have not had a period yet & most likely won’t until I’ve totally weaned (usually how it goes in my family).. has anyone conceived without a period? Any tips? I have not had any fertile CM since before I got pregnant with my son. I do have random “phantom periods” every month or so where I get period cramps, but no blood. Maybe ovulation? But no fertile CM with it.
