Ultrasounds?

Question

How do you guys get an ultrasound so quick?!
I'm 9 weeks and my doctor wont give me one til 14 weeks! 
Is this normal? 
This is my second baby and I know with my first I had an emergency ultrasound done cause they couldn't hear the heartbeat but she didnt even listen.... I'm confused. 😭
Maybe insurance doesnt pay for it I guess?

My OB does a transvaginal in office around 8-9 weeks. I didn’t get a “real” ultrasound until 12 weeks but they have told me they need to do one before 15 weeks for dating purposes.

I didn’t get one til 12 weeks. I think people with history of prior miscarriages usually get one earlier. Also a lot of people on this app seem to go to the ER super early just to get a scan instead of waiting for their regular OB.

I’m not sure. I’m military and it’s standard for them to give you an ultrasound at 7-8 weeks.

Definitely depends on where you live and the doctor. I had one at 8 weeks. That apparently where I went is the norm. It’s called your dating scan. It’s how they know how far along you are and give you your estimated due date. Then I had one at 12 weeks which was only because I got the genetic testing done to check for Down syndrome and trisomy 13. If I didn’t do that testing I wouldn’t have had one at 12 weeks. Then I had one at 20 weeks for our anatomy scan. I also ended up getting one at 32 weeks and 37 weeks to check on babies growth because he was measuring very small.

I had one done at 8 weeks - when I had my initial appointment to confirm the pregnancy. The only other one I’ll have is the one for the anatomy scan (next week!!). The doctor does use a Doppler at every appointment to listen to the heartbeat, but haven’t seen babe since that initial appointment.

It’s normal to offer one between 10 and 14 weeks I think. This is to do the NT test and date the pregnancy. There is only a limited number of weeks when the NT can be performed which is why it’s done then. It’s also not recommended to use ultrasound before 10 weeks gestation unless there are concerns as the technology produces heat which heats the foetus and there is considered a possible very small risk before 10 weeks in particular or if you’re having lots of scans that you don’t need for medical reasons. Generally you should only have two scans during pregnancy for this reason unless there are concerns and then it is proportionate and sometimes a good idea to have more. There’s also not much you can see before 10 weeks and scanning before then can cause a lot of unnecessary worry. Just google the NT test to check it can still be done at 14 weeks (I think it can and that’s the cut off) and if not ask your doctor if they can do it slightly earlier to do the NT screen (although if you’re having a more accurate screening test like Harmony then you don’t need the NT test as it’s redundant so there would be no rush) :) x

Depends on where you at at. When I was enlisted in Hawaii they gave you only one at 20w but now that I’m out I got one a 6w ... I’m moving here soon and the place I’m moving to won’t even see you until you are 12w, it all depends on your location

I had one at 6 weeks with my last due to an ovarian cyst.  I don’t even have a doctor appointment with this one yet for another week (currently 7+3).  After that, I have to find another doctor because mine no longer does prenatal care and the midwife I chose won’t take me on because of a history of retained placenta and hemorrhage.  So I honestly have no idea when I’ll get one this time 😂 just paying for a private one.

Definitely depends on doctor. Will all of mine the first appointment I always had an ultrasound and then wouldn't until gender reveal at about 20 weeks. I might have more this time around due to sub hematoma.
