Help me understand these baby reusables

Maybe I sound silly but am a FTM and I have no idea what the difference between some of these baby fabric is.

Help me describe the following and the use.

Muslin

Inserts

Prefolds

Liners

Which of the above do I need for cloth diapers? And what material is the best. What is the difference between inserts and prefolds. Do diapers get stained if I use them without liners? What are muslins?

I know what the following are but want to be sure if I got how to use them right.

Burp cloth - after breast feeding

Wipes - do I use them dry or need to wet them before I wipe baby with these?
