Ovulation..?

Ok I’m currently 17 days late on my period, TTC and wasn’t successful in January, but I never started bleeding or even spotting for that matter. I fluctuated birth control pills trying to decide if I should just give up, so could that be a sign of irregular period? If so can I just skip to my placebo pills tomorrow, start my period and have a normal ovulation at the beginning of March? All very confusing, and I KNOW I’m not supposed to be halfway on BC either all the way on or all the way off... just want to know if I have to have a period to ovulate again next. LMP January 14, today is February 27th.. had some light faint positives for a couple days but never bled so I presume false or I would say chemical pregnancy... I need answers!! And for the love of god I know I am not supposed to on and off take my birth control but I don’t even have an excuse why I did that.
