Kissing newborns?

Hi mommas! Hope you are all good :D I’m reading quite a few stories about kissing newborns/very young children on the lips that has led to herpes, meningitis I think? (Basically has things happening!) my question is what about kissing on the forehead? Is anyone allowing that? I’m not allowing lip kissing. But I know my mum will probably want to kiss her and I don’t want to upset anyone (especially as my mum can go over the top sometimes lol) is it safe?

A friend of mine has a grandson who contracted HSV1 through kisses as an infant. It led to seizures. He now has Cerebral Palsy. Granted this is highly uncommon. But I am not taking a chance. No kisses for a while at least. (Many may disagree with this and that is their right. Just sharing my thoughts)

No one gets to kiss the baby besides me and daddy. It's been like that for all my kids. I even kiss on top of the head in the beginning. But once they are older it's kisses on lips, head, feet, etc. I'm very affectionate with my kiddos

From what I've read, the *safest* places to kiss a newborn are the very top of the head, or the bottom of their little feet. I won't be allowing anyone to kiss my little guy other than my husband and I. I don't recommend it, this is just what I've seen in different articles.

I am wondering this too. I would like to allow people to kiss the top of baby’s head (nowhere near mouth or hands) but I wonder if it is best for no kissing at all.

Following for the fore head! I think if the forehead isn’t good, I am gonna ask them to kiss the top of his head. I would rather not have mil or mom kiss him at all—but knowing them, they’ll do it when I am sleeping and they get their chance. I swear these ladies are gonna drive me nuts for two weeks.

Not really... even though your mom may not be sick she can be carrying virus and bacterias that your newborn does not have resistance for yet... unfortunately no kissing is better!

Only allowing kissing on top of the head with a hat on and no one to breathe in baby’s face. My family is ALWAYS sick and I’m not even allowing anyone in if they’ve been sick recently. I suffered with a URI for a month and I’m not getting sick after birth.

I pretty much explained the crazy virus going around to my Mom so she would understand and not get hurt feelings. After hearing what can happen she understood! I told her she can kiss her cute little toes and that's it, cause it's no where near her face. And that seemed to make her happy & satisfied until she gets a little bigger!
