Scary thing happened today....
I was scrubbed into a surgery today. (I’m a surgical technologist it’s my job) well I started to get very dizzy so I asked my nurse to get me a chair so I could sit down for just a second. The doc asked if I was ok I told them both I was a little dizzy that I think I just needed to sit down for a second. Sat down still retracting during surgery but wasn’t feeling any better. Then my nurse asked if I needed someone to scrub in and give me a little break I said yes please. I figured just sitting down and getting a little water would make me feel better. Well my nurse left the room to go find someone to relieve me well when she came back she said all the color was gone from my face. She said I was as white as paper. So they picked me up put me in a wheel chair and wheeling me out of the OR. They took my mask off and that’s when they really panicked apparently my lips were blue. So they thought I wasn’t getting any oxygen and if I’m not getting oxygen baby isn’t getting oxygen either. So they call for a rapid response to the OR. (Mind you this is the first rapid response in the OR like ever) they put me in a gurney and put oxygen on me and wheel me to the emergency room. They immediately start hooking me up to ekg monitors and blood pressure the worlds. Then L&D comes in by this point I’m awake just very weak. They start trying to find baby on the Doppler. They had to call another ob nurse because she couldn’t find it. Second nurse comes and finally found it baby was just hiding. They took my blood sugar and it was 64. They said they need me between 70-100 so needless to say I posted out because my blood sugar got to low. They hooked me up to an iv which the only vein they could find was in my wrist ouch! And gave me juice to try and increase my blood sugar. They checked my sugar again after an hour or two and it’s now 80. So I’m doing better. Still a little weak and have a bad headache but I’m doing a lot better. Got discharged and am home resting but man that was scary. I gave all my coworkers quite the fright too. Worst part was people assumed I didn’t eat breakfast but I did I guess I just didn’t eat enough for baby.
