Pediatricians specialize in infants and children and a family doctor does not.

Our midwife explained the choice to us this way: (and obviously there will be exceptions to this)
Family doctor: more laid back but not a specialist
Pediatrician: if you are more anxious this might be better but it might stress you out more as they are more particular
Our experience: we use our family doctor who we LOVE and I have always felt like our concerns have been treated seriously right away but we also have a lot of choice. We have never had pressure for vaccine schedules and he’s very laid back with us and usually supports what we want and give us choices

My son went to my family doctor his first two years with no issue. They followed the CDC vaccination recommendations and they referred us to specialists when they felt he needed it. Only thing I disagreed with them on was starting solids at 4 months but based on this app a lot of pediatricians recommend that too 🤷🏻‍♂️ We moved and he sees a pediatrician now.

Our family doctor used to work at the hospital as an pediatrician, so for us it didn’t matter. And normally here babies/kids use a family doctor and get sent to a pediatrician if there is something special.

We have to drive two hours just to get to a pediatrician but we wouldn’t go to one if they were closer either. We rarely go to a doctor other than our chiropractor. My son has been to a doctor twice in the last 7 years and one of those was for his kindergarten physical. No reason to take a healthy kid to a petri dish for someone to tell me he’s healthy.
