Any advice to help with my dog?

I think this all started right after Thanksgiving 2018. I live with my parents and I've my dog for 6 years now. Since hes my dog, he would always sleep upstairs in my room with me . He would always come with me to my room when he saw me go up the stairs.

In November, I got a new bed. Right after I set my new bed up he refuses to sleep in my room. He hardly ever comes up here now, and when he does he looks at me for a second, chews on his toy for another few seconds and then he leaves again. Hes been sleeping on the couch in the living room since November.

Last night he peed on the couch (hes never peed in the house the entire 6 years I've had him until last night). So, my parents have told me he needs to sleep in my room again.

I know hes going to hate it. I tried it back in November. He screams, scratches at the door, and will NOT stop until I let him out to go sleep downstairs.

I dont know why he went from loving my room to hating it, nothing has changed except a different bed. Does anyone have any ideas on how to get him to be comfortable again in my room? I'm not going to be getting any sleep anymore with him in here if hes not comfortable and just screaming/scratching all night.

Is your dog crate trained? If he is put his crate in your room, put his dog bed in it or any blankets he normally sleeps on and then throw a blanket on top of the crate so that it’s fully covered. It kinda becomes like a safe lil den for a dog

Can you guys get a dog/baby gate to put at the top of the stairs at night so he can’t go downstairs? You can keep your bedroom door open and maybe once he sees he still can’t go down, he will come back to your room with it being his choice instead of forced. I can’t figure out why he suddenly decided the couch was his bed, but my dogs go through phases sometimes where they choose somewhere else to sleep for a while.
