First ultrasound not until 12 weeks?

I have a blood test at 8 1/2 weeks and my first ultrasound at 12 1/2 weeks. It’s my first pregnancy so I don’t have a history of miscarriage or any issues, but it just seems like such a long time to wait to make sure everything’s ok. Is this timeline normal?

Not long at all.  There isn’t much for them to really look at before that so it isn’t really medically necessary.  Some will do it for dates and some will do it if there is complications but 12 weeks is a good starting point.  When I had my first two, it was uncommon to have any beyond the 20 week anatomy scan!  I’m always surprised by how many people have now.
If you want to do it earlier, there are a lot of private ultrasound places you can look into.  There is one here that only charges $49 for ultrasounds before 13 weeks.

I had a blood test today my first appointment and won’t get first ultrasound until I’m 12 weeks March 29th.

I would have had to wait until between 10-12 weeks for my first ultrasound, but I had a missed miscarriage last January so that wanted to ensure everything was on track.  I didn't have mine until 11 weeks last year. :/ it felt like forever, especially because it was my first pregnancy.

Can you ask for them to be any sooner? How many weeks are you now. It does seem a little late but I’m sure it’s nothing to worry about
