When did you wash baby’s clothes?

35 weeks and I just got the nursery painted so I was thinking of washing his clothes this week. Is this a good time or too soon? Also is it better to hand wash or will a washing machine do just fine? I’m a first time mom so I’m not sure😅

I washed mine in the past few weeks. I’m 31 weeks. I have only bought 0-3 and larger sizes so far because I’ve had so many people tell me their baby never fit newborn size clothes. I didn’t want a bunch of clothes that would never fit and I couldn’t return. My plan is, if she fits newborn when she arrives, I’ll send my husband out for clothes.

I didn’t have loads of baby clothes as we kept the gender a surprise so didn’t buy loads just enough for the hospital and first few days at home. I washed them all around week 37/38 when I packed my hospital bag

Here’s a lesson my husband and I learned the hard way. We bought a TON of newborn clothes and I tore the tags off and washed them all. In the last  couple weeks because of GD, my baby has gained over 3 lbs the OB is estimating, putting her well over newborn size. None of the clothes we bought her will fit now and we can’t return them.

You will hate all of those cute little clothes while folding and putting them away lol. One baby load is equal to like ten of ours. Or more. So I definitely wouldn’t recommend hand washing unless the instructions say to. And I’d probably start washing now just to get it done.

I washed baby clothes from 37 weeks onwards (took 7 loads just for newborn - 3 months we have that many🙄😐). Washing is perfectly fine - hand washing wouldn't be efficient if you have lots. Remember blankets and all accessories too! We've started washing all of our clothes in the same detergent also. Be mindful to not put the beautiful smelling clothes back in the nursery until the paint smell goes!
