Are you piercing your daughter's ears?

Just read an article about piercing children's ears. There are two sides to the argument: 1. If you pierce them young, their lobes are thinner and easier/less painful to pierce. They are also less aware of what's going on, so they are less likely to be upset and/or get nervous and pull away (causing damage), etc. Plus, if they don't like it when they're older they can always take them out. 2. If you wait until they are older, they can give consent and take care of their piercings themselves.
The AAP has stated that as long as someone is taking proper care of them, that there is the same risk (little to none) regardless of age.
I'm not really sure where I stand on this. I always imagined I would pierce my daughter's ears as soon as I was able, but now that I'm having a daughter, I'm wondering if I should let her decide. What do you think? Are you piercing your daughter's ears?

No for various reasons- 1)consent 2)she can’t understand infection/preventing infection 3)most places that will pierce babies ears use guns which are a no no 3)the ears can change shape as she grows which can make the piercings uneven 3)can’t clean them herself 4) i would rather her understand it’s painful than her being completely unaware and shocked at the pain and scared. 😊 that’s just MY reasons, of course if other people choose to that’s their choice!

I don't agree with piercing babies ears personally, my daughter chose to get hers done when she was 7 and I'll leave this baby to decide if she wants them as well

My kids will get their piercings when they can pay for them and take care of them. I’m covered in tattoos and piercings but I don’t believe in doing anything cosmetic to your kids.

For our family we are letting her decide when she is old enough to make that kind of decision. We feel it is her body and her choice to do that.

On top of what has already been said.... my ears were pierced at two, and they were lopsided by the time I was 8 and had to get them redone so 🤷🏽‍♀️👍🏼

My daughter’s four and I’m waiting until she asks simply for the fact that when I was young, my mom made it a fun girls day and I loved that. So I want to do that with my daughter too. Not because of any of that “consent, her body” business. Lol. If I felt I needed to or didn’t have that experience with my mom, I would’ve pierced her ears as a newborn and I don’t care what anyone else chooses to do for their kids. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I pierced my oldest when she was 7 months. She’s almost 2 and we’ve had zero issues. I’ll do the same for my youngest when she’s around 6-7 months too.

I don’t have a daughter (boy mom💙), but if I did, I would wait. My mom waited until I asked. I was 5. I was so happy she let me decide when to have them done. I got to pick my own color earrings, take care of them myself, and show them off to everyone. I thought I was so grown up.

Also, if you take her to a tattoo/piercing parlor, they will safely pierce her ears with a needle. Causing less infections, less damage to the earlobes, etc. Just make sure it’s a clean reputable shop with great reviews
