Protein shakes while breastfeeding?

I never thought about it when I was nursing my second bc I wasn’t working out. But now since having baby number 3 five weeks ago my family and I are getting ready to start working out and what not again. So now I’m curious if protein shakes are healthy when nursing?

Just make your own shakes with soy milk. My favorite is 8oz soy milk, frozen banana, peanut butter, apple, flax seeds and cinnamon.

You can also make your own smoothies like another poster mentioned. My favorite especially the last trimester is a date smoothie (since dates will shorten and help labor). I add milk, frozen bananas, blueberries, peanut butter, dates, spinach, flax. Blend it up and drink. So yummy. You can customize them however you’d like.

I had protein shakes my whole pregnancy... I had “Premium protein” shake my obgny recommended it. Even after pregnancy I m taking it but not regularly as before but at least thrice a week... Now after seeing your post I m concerned about this... Is it not safe? 😰... Anyone please help me

I’m not sure about the brand but I know like any thing too much of something can be a bad thing. I would just a peep a call in to your dr and ask . I am sure you’re little one will be okay !

It depends on what is in them and how much you use. I’ve been drinking one but not every day after researching. Pregnant women need more protein but not too much and many protein shakes come with things that aren’t good for the baby. I’ve even seen some shakes with warnings on them for pregnant women. I would run it by your provider and or a dietitian.

Yeah my son already has severe acid reflux so my diet is very wierd with breastfeeding. We are also pretty positive he has amilk protein allergy like my second did.so we’re working with a gi dr!

This!! 👏👏 I cant agree with this more. My sister was drinking all kinds of protien, pre-workout, superfood, rovery shakes throughout her pregnancy and her baby was born with a heart defect. She continued drinking most of it while breastfeeding and he baby had horrible reflux, supposedly some kind of allergy, and she ended up having to supplement with formula. Please, PLEASE do your research AND talk to professionals about it.
