One child?

Question

Tell me why one child is just the right number for you. 
*please don’t make an assumption that I think women should have more than one child.

I definitely thought for awhile that one child is all we wanted because she is amazing and made us incredibly happy. I know you didn’t ask this, but we decided to have another when I went through some really tough stuff when my dad passed away. My brother and sister did so much for me (I was the one caring for him in his final years), and I realized they supported me in a way my husband couldn’t, even though he was great. That was the tipping point for me, that I didn’t want her to go through things as an adult without a sibling. Just an opinion from a formerly one and done gal.

My husband and I spoke for a long time about if and when to start a family before I got pregnant with my daughter. From the beginning I knew I wanted just one child, but my husband had been trying to convince me we should have multiple. Sadly, the biggest factor in the preliminary discussion was whether or not we could afford a family. We were both ready to be parents and knew we could make it work, but unless something drastically changes we can't support more than one child. 
We both came from families with 3 kids and know too well how little there is to go around. The thing I really wanted from my parents more than anything else was time and attention. But because my dad had to work all the time to support us I never saw him as much as I would have liked. As for my mom, she stayed home with us (at least until I was about 15) and she was tired all the time from keeping up with us, driving us to events, hosting sleepovers...you get the idea. It impacted their relationship with each other just as much as it did with us kids. And it was difficult to watch at times.
After having my daughter, my husband decided he was fine with just one. First, seeing me go through a difficult pregnancy and delivery scared him enough to never want to deal with it again. Second, raising a baby is no joke. We hardly have time to keep ourselves alive, let alone this baby and if there were other kids involved we would be doomed. Third, he says she's perfect and we got it right the first time, so there's no need to keep going. 😊
Our families are always pressuring us to have more. But I can honestly tell you this is it for me. I just want to be a happy mom and give the best myself to my family.

I know you didn’t ask for this. But I am 25 and a only child. I didn’t like not having a sibling to grow up with. My mother died from cancer when I was 11. And my father passed away last year. I have my husband and son and currently pregnant with number two. But I don’t have anyone that grew up with me. I don’t have anyone to remember that one time my dad did this or remember when mom did that.  My husband only knew my father for 5 years yes I get to share those times with him but it’s not the same. Just thought I’d give you a perspective from an only child. But my parents were able to do more things and give me a better life then other kids I knew that had siblings. 🤗

Because I lost twins at 24 weeks and I decided to be one and done after than because pregnancy is extremely hard on me. My son is now 6 weeks and I’m really happy I decided to only have 1 baby.

I love having my one . She’s still a baby( she’s 7 months ) and she makes me so happy . I’m so fulfilled i don’t need anymore . I love all the attention I’m able to give her and of course all the love . I also love the fact that when i wanna take a nap, me and her can nap together . I don’t have to worry about another baby running around . One is pretty easy

I wouldn’t mind having more kids in the future, but right now I am content with just having my daughter. I like the fact that she has me all to herself and I can give her all my attention. It my sound selfish, but I don’t want her to share me right now. I was also extremely paranoid during my pregnancy, to the point I feel I didn’t get to enjoy it as much as I wanted, that I don’t know if I can go through that anytime soon.
