Posterior tongue tie: should we have it clipped?

Question

We just found out our 1 month old has an upper lip tie and posterior tongue tie. He is gaining weight well but nursing has been mildly painful for me no matter how many times I relatch him. 
We are trying to decide if it’s worth getting the ties corrected. I don’t want to cause him unnecessary pain but would love for nursing to get easier. Thoughts?

For anyone out there reading this wondering about their own LOs tongue tie, we went ahead and got it clipped. The procedure itself was super easy. Baby was fussy and had trouble patching that evening due to swelling. After that resolved it took a couple weeks to relearn latching but he is now 12 weeks old and a nursing pro! Glad we got it done!

We did it and I’m really glad we did. My child had both. When they’re small, the recovery is quick.

My 6 month old daughter was born with a pretty severe tongue tie. It surprisingly didn’t affect feeding but after doing some research I decided I wanted it clipped. I suggest doing your own, but leaving it there could be speech/eating/kissing issues when she’s older. It was a super simple procedure just done in the Drs office. There are no nerve endings in the tie so it is not painful to clip, no different then cutting fingernails or hair. My daughter didn’t even flinch when he cut it. As far as the lip tie I can’t comment though.
