In need of Advise 🤷🏽‍♀️

Hello ladies! I need someone to help me see if I’m at wrong here. So I’ve always had this idea of doing something nice for my parents and even I may have done small things here and there like any daughter would, I’d like to gift them a trip to Europe. However, they beat me to it and they already started planning for it. So what I’d like to do is give them $1,200 which will go towards their flight and maybe have a little extra for their trip. However, I was dreading having to tell my husband bc I had a feeling that he wouldn’t understand what it means to me to do something like this for them. But I don’t want to keep anything from him so I told him anyways, and like I had thought he didn’t agree or like the idea. He said, I get you want to do something nice but $500 should be reasonable. I told him this is money that I had is my personal account that was just there and since I was closing the account I figure I’ll give that money to my parents. I thought I was doing something nice for them and yes it may seem like a lot of money, but just think how much more they’ll appreciate it. But instead we got into an argument and now I feel like shit! I bring just as much $$ as he does, but yet he feels like he should be the one making financial decisions for both of us, and I’ve already told him that I’m not giving that right! And that I do too should have the right to choose what to do with our finances and that we are equal!

So I’m torn on what to do, I told him “I’m telling you this bc I don’t want to keep you in the dark but it’s something that I have gave it some thought and it means a lot to me” then he went on to say well next time I plan on spending $1K I’ll let you know but it’ll be spent anyways. I feel he’s missing the point, or am I missing something?
