Which spelling should I choose?

Our current top pick for names for our little boy is Roan. We would pronounce it RO-en, but we prefer this spelling to Rowan. 
I know that people will look at it and pronounce it Rone, since it is the same spelling as the word roan which is commonly used as a coloring for horses. The spelling we like is an accepted variation with the pronunciation we want (it’s Frisian for raven, rather than Irish for red headed), so it’s not like I’m making things up.
So I guess the question is... should I go with the spelling I love but deal with correcting people on its pronunciation (and him having to deal with that throughout his life), or go with the spelling that I like okay just to make things simpler?

The other thing to think about is that it isn’t you who will be correcting people for possibly 80 years. After your kid turns about five, he’ll be the one correcting people forever.

I would say that you and he will be correcting people basically every time. I would say that almost everyone is going to think that Roan rhymes with moan.

I read it the way you intended...I know not everyone will but I really think that's ok. a little adversity builds character and just because you might or he might have to correct people doesn't mean he won't like his name. I had one tricky last name no one could get right and had to correct people a lot. it is what it is, you know? you have a reason for your choice of spelling and I think that's really thoughtful. you love it, so go with it. i used to substitute teach and there are a lot of unique names so he will be in good company.

What about Roen, Rohan or Rohen...I do think people would mispronounce it a lot spelled Roan, unfortunately ☹️

I understand where you’re coming from, but I think you’ll be constantly correcting people if you spell it like Roan. I know I read it as “rone”. Is there another spelling you may like? Maybe Rowen or something?
