what did you do to get your child to communicate?

My daughter will be 2 in May , and all she knows is the letter “A” can say hi , bye , dad, and cheese..... it’s like she talks when she wants to. I’ve been going back and forth with myself wanting to take her to speech therapy but I don’t wanna feel like I did something wrong with her not talking right now.

Get her hearing checked. My mom was a director of a preschool and there was a 4 year old that wouldn’t talk. My mom told her parents to get her hearing checked. She got tubes in her ears and within weeks she was talking up a storm.

My daughter also 2 in may is also the exact same. Will say a few words exactly the same dada, a, mama, juice even purple and auroa from sleeping beauty. I read to her have follwed advice from my health visitor etc even downloaded apps on my phone. She understands everything i say and ask her to do will follow instructions exactly like i ask her, but getting her to talk more she just wont do it. The health visitor is due back in few months to see her i just hope she picks up more words by then. My oldest who is 3 is quite advanced and clever did everything early, i think i compare her to her sister and also every other child, but i think every child develops at their own pace. But your not alone.

I would get hearing checked first. But there is nothing wrong with speech therapy. Some kids are late bloomers and just need a little extra encouragement.

I echo the hearing check. Also, read read read read! Aside from reading the actual words, encourage participation. “Where’s the dog? Can you say dog? What do dogs say? What is that puppy doing?” Etc.

I am a preschool teacher and can tell you that some kids just don’t want to talk and one day they will just start taking and won’t ever stop lol
