Gastroschisis??? 12 week ultrasound today and found out baby's intestines are outside of his/her body! I'm freaking out, trying to stay positive but it's so hard! Anyone know more about it or know someone who had the same thing? I just need some reassurin

My son was born with gastroschisis! I was induced at 37 weeks because the still born rate past that at all increases dramatically... not saying that to scare you but I’m sure your doctors will talk to you about that! My son had all of the intestines out so it took a couple weeks for his tummy to stretch to get it all put back in. They put it in a silo like in the picture and when you first deliver they will put a sterile bag around everything to help reduce chances of infection!

Vaginally is safer so that they don’t accidentally cut the intestines. My son had to be intibated for 2 weeks and then a tube for the bile build up for the next week. Once the tubes came out on the third week they allowed a feeding tube! And one more week he was strong. Enough to come home! He was born Dec 7,2015 and we came home Jan 7, 2016! It is hard and takes time but it is worth it!! He is three now and just has a little scar on his belly button and is pretty flat with the rest of his body. Other than that there is like a 3% chance the intestines will twist at some point in his entire life because they don’t go back in perfect. And organs don’t always go back in the same spot so his appendix isn’t where it should be.

My sister in laws sister was born this way, actually had a really bad case of it, and they did surgery right after birth, she has gone on to live a normal happy life. You actually would never know it about her unless she told you. (And that was 20+ years ago, so I would imagine technology has come along way since). I wish you all the best. I can’t imagine how your feeling right now. I wish I could say something to make you feel better. 💕

My aunt had this. She had surgery right after she was born, and she’s fine now, except she doesn’t have a bellybutton. Lol.

A friend of mine her baby was born with this! We’re not close friends so I don’t know all the details of the severity but I do believe it was pretty bad. But she is now a super healthy, energetic 7 year old and you’d never ever know she was born with this condition other than a scar from surgery. Try not to worry! (Easier said than done) but this is not a super uncommon condition and although I’m sure it will cause much stress, trust that the doctors know how to handle this.

I don’t personally know anyone but I’ve been following the user @darling.children on Instagram and her baby had it, she’s posted a lot about it with how the process is going from pregnancy to the birth and the progress he’s made after birth and the baby looks like they are doing great! If you’re interested to know others stories I’d give her a follow it may be helpful in some way💕
