How to survive the NICU??

My baby was born at 35 weeks because I had pre eclampsia and it caused her to have IUGR. I’ve been monitored for 2 days and they’re going to discharge me tomorrow. However my baby is still a little too small to come home. She’s in a warmer because she’s still only 3 pounds 2 ounces. They want her to be close to 4 pounds before sending her home. She has no other issues as of now just her weight and temp control. (Lungs, blood sugar etc are all fine). I just don’t know how long she’ll be here. I need some help because if they send me home I’m going to have a hard time with it. I just wanna stay here where she is. Any tips on what I should do!? How did/are you survive the NICU??

Call everytime you pump. Get updates often. Spend as much time with her as you can, but don't forget to take care of yourself. Set a predictable routine for yourself, not with set times just a loose routine.
Tomorrow don't "schedule" your time just make a check list. Get up, eat breakfast, take a shower, brush teeth, etc. So you can see the forward progress you are making towards seeing you baby. Take every day one day at a time. Try to focus on forward progress. Most NICU's have a goal date of your due date. Set that as your end goal and you'll be much happier if she gets to come home earlier. Ask questions, lots of questions, and ask them multiple times if it makes you feel better. The nurses and doctors understand that this isn't what you had planned for your child and yourself. They understand that you feel this is unfair and that you have many emotions, including sadness and anger. Try to keep the two parts of your emotions separate. It is okay to be mad and sad and anything else you feel, but try to also acknowledge that your baby is where she needs to be and she is getting better and she will come home eventually. I am so sorry you are having to go through this. It is not a "club" any of us want to be a part of.

4) Would just sit there next to him and hold him or hold his hand
5) I prayed like crazy
