Experience with water/natural birth?

Question

I'd love to hear what helped you during labor! I'm pregnant with my first baby, I have a midwife and planning an all natural waterbirth. I'm not quite sure what to expect, but I'm so excited I feel like I'll have a beautiful labor. Share your lovely stories and tips below 💕

I had my first baby at a birth center with a midwife last year and it was amazing! She recommended me to see a nutritionist and chiropractor because it helps with labor! And it did help me a lot, I had NO tears NO drugs all natural and I wouldn’t of had it any other way. The contractions were mild but it’s not excruciating pain as you see in movies lol. It’s very tolerable believe me women’s bodies are made to give birth its amazing. I wanted to give birth in the water tub but I was getting too relaxed and it was slowing my labor! crazy to think I was super relaxed while in labor! I had him on the bed instead. I also recovered super fast postpartum. If I have a second I’m definitely going to the same place!

I had my third baby 3 days ago. She was my first water/natural birth, and honestly, my favorite way I've given birth! The whole experience was amazing. We're so conditioned to think that we can't give birth and that we need help but I think this was my easiest birth for two main reasons: 1) I spent my whole pregnancy preparing for it (mentally and physically) and 2) I learned to work with the contractions instead of fighting them. When it gets intense, you can feel them coming, and it's easier to exhale during them than inhale, so take a big inhale and exhale in low tones for as long as you can during. It helps so much! Also hiring a doula made such a difference for me! Their emotional support, knowledge and tips and tricks are invaluable! I also loved having a peaceful environment with soft music, soft lights, and toward the end my husband got in the tub while I was pushing. I loved how involved he was able to be!
Not only was it my easiest, shortest birth, but I'm healing faster, my baby is healthy as can be, breastfeeding is going far better than the first two, and I've felt so bonded to her from the start where it took me weeks to really feel like I bonded with her sisters. I'm in great spirits and really I feel pretty good, considering. Everything about it was easier, peaceful and just all around felt like that's how birth is supposed to be. If we have any more I would do it that way again, hands down! Congratulations and I hope you have the birth you're hoping for!

I liked the birthing stool more than the water. Don't be afraid to keep moving around until you find what works! Also, practice meditation every day. I took a hypnobirthing class, and it helped a ton! Just knowing how to breathe will help a lot during contractions.
