For anyone who’s gotten induced, does pitocin only work when you’re dilated?

I’m not dilated at all and getting induced Monday. I don’t know what other forms of induction there are besides pitocin 🤦🏽‍♀️😪

I’ve been induced twice.  First time I wasn’t dialated at all so they used Foley balloon the night before which got me to 4cm and then started pitocin in the morning.  Second time I naturally dialated to about 3cm so they just started the pitocin.  My dr told me they wouldn’t give me pitocin until I was at least dilated a little.  Not sure if that was the hospital policy or hers though.

I’ve been induced twice and was less than 1cm to start with. The first time I had 12 hours of cervadil which got me to 3 or 4cm and 90% effaced before staring pitocin. The second time they used a foley bulb which took about 6 hours to get me to 4cm and 80% effaced before starting pitocin. 
There are a few other methods as well, but cervadil and foley bulb (aka balloon catheter) were the 2 that I’m familiar with.

I was only dilated to 1 cm when we started my induction. Hypertension was the reason. At 2 cm she broke my water because baby was 0 station. 5 and a half hours later she was born. Likewise I had a friend induced when she was like 2 cm for Cholistasis and hers lasted 4 days before they broke her water and baby was born like 23 hours later. Depends on the individual and how they respond to different methods and all that.

I wasn’t dilated when I was induced. They gave me cervadil to soften my cervix. I think I went to a 2, then they started pitocin. It took a few hours, but I finally dilated to a four and he was able to break my water which progressed things along much quicker. Once I got the epidural it slowed things down, but all in all it took about 15 hours from the time I walked into the hospital to the time I had a baby in my arms.

Cooks catheter works great for dialation but pitocin does work if you are dilated I’m not a huge fan of it bc of last experience so I was trying my damnest to not need it but after 23 hours of induction and being stuck at 5 1/2 cm I gave in a got the smallest dosage they could give. That was just in January with my 3rd

If you’re not dilating they have several ways to help that too. Cervadil (medicine) or a balloon are a couple ways.
