Vitamin D Drops while breastfeeding?

Our pediatrician told us to get Vitamin D Drops and give them to our daughter she’s 4 days old. She said it’s because I’m breastfeeding and not bottle feeding. I’ve never heard of this before is it normal? I thought breastfeeding they get all the nutrients they need without any supplement.

A lot of ped are recommending it now . But we are not doing them. I’ve breast fed my middle and him it was recommended when my second was bf and she is fine. My poor son has several medications he takes daily already I’m not adding another to make him miserable 🤷🏻‍♀️ that’s just me though

They get some vitamin D through breastmilk but not enough. Not having enough vitamin D can cause Ricketts. We’ve been giving vitamin D since birth. We get the ones that are a single drop and I just put in on my nipple once a day. It was less than $10 on Amazon and is enough to last a year.

I bought vitamin d for myself to take so my daughter was getting it through my milk. And when I switched to formula I got drops that I add to her bottle. Currently pregnant again- never stopped taking them, I take a daily probiotic and prenatals as well so it was easy to keep taking.

Its normal. Have the pediatrician write a prescription for them so you can try to get them paid for by insurance.
