Toddler and an infant, mixing diapers?

Hello all!
I was wondering, in a few short months I will have a 2 year old boy and an infant girl in diapers. I have mostly Bumgenius and Thirsties, pocket and AIOs.
Can I mix diapers between the babies or do I need to have diapers for the toddler only? 
Is there a way I should wash them to make sure they're clean enough for either to use?

For most of diapers each of my kids has their own set only because they are different sizes and i don’t want to have to mess with sizing them all the time. But some of our diapers they share. But everything gets washed together with no issue.

You can absolutely mix them if you're using one-size, but you'll need to adjust the sizes for each.  I would set up half for toddler and half for baby, they can stay sized in the wash and it saves a step when you're setting up.  
If you're not using one-size, then they probably won't fit both of them.  Lol.

We used the same diapers for both.  I just followed my normal wash routine.

Yes, you can mix them. My two year old and my 6 month old share diapers. They are the same ones my oldest has been using his whole life and my youngest started using them too after he was born. 
I don't do any kind of special washes or anything. I use my normal wash cycles and normal routine. I use Alva, Nora's Nursery, Kawaii Goodnight Heavy Wetter, and Mama Koala. I've had no issues with staining from either kid, though sometimes for some reason they will still smell like my little one's farts even when they are clean 🤔
