Mom advice please!

Gillian • Mom of twins- 👧🏼👼🏼 10-27-17 Expecting our rainbow boy 11-1-19 👶🏼

Any November 2017 mamas seeing delays in their littles? My husband and I have recently noticed that our daughter often doesn’t respond to her name (I’d say 80% of the time). When I looked it up everything I read has said this is a HUGE red flag for autism. Now we are noticing and overthinking every little thing. I’ve called our ped and she said that they generally don’t do that assessment until 18-24 months and wants to hold off until her June 3rd appointment. I’m pregnant and shouldn’t be stressing but totally am 😭 she’s also still only using one word and not putting together any 2 word sentences. My sister in laws boys were both having full on conversations by now and she think she’s having speech delays as well. Any advice??

I wouldn’t worry. My daughter is knows her name, doesn’t say it and ignores us most of the time when we call her. She knows words but doesn’t make any sentences. And she’s right on track or ahead with her milestones. Don’t stress! Everyone is at a different pace.

I get ignored a lot too especially when she’s doing something she isn’t supposed to do. She can only say maybe 3 words and she’ll only say them when she wants. My pediatrician says she’s perfect and as long as she is understanding things I say not to worry. She said we should see her vocabulary take off between 18month-2 years.

Mine were preemies (34w) so they should be behind in some things... I don’t see it that much though! With speech, well, I saw it in my nephews how it can change from one kid to the other so I don’t stress that much. We are also raising them trilingual, as we are expats living abroad, so we expect them to start talking around 2y... relax! I’m sure your kid is fine, there’s nothing you can do anyway 😉♥️💪🏻

My daughter is a twin! Her brother was still born, but we’ve read a lot that twins can develop at different rates?

With my niece it was an undetected inner ear infection that caused a lot of her delays. Because she wasn't hearing properly she would just mumble most of the time. She couldn't tell what others said so mimic to learn words etc. She is in speech therapy to catch up now that they have treated the problem. I would get your LO checked out by a specialist before jumping the gun. Good luck

My daughter knows her name but chooses to ignore us most of the time, she doesn’t put two words together unless it’s “mommy, daddy” but that’s it. She knows I believe 6 words, and can sign 10 different words (eat, drink, hungry, stop, milk, etc.) but she’ll only say or sign when she wants to 🙄

My son very rarely strings words together.. like I’ve heard him do it maybe two or three times. So I wouldn’t worry too much about that.

Aww don’t worry about it too much. My son doesn’t respond half the time I call his name. He can’t say mommy or daddy yet but says all kinds of other words. His vocabulary just exploded in the past few weeks. But He’s not really saying any sentences either. You still have a few months until your next appointment. Relax and keep talking to her.
