Making it a good one

Me and my boyfriend have been together for a year on New Years and I want to get him a great present whether it be an actual gift or spending the day together doing something. I'd rather spend the day together but here's the difficult part...we live in Wisconsin and it's pretty cold in the winter so finding things to do for the day is hard. I was thinking of going downhill skiing maybe the weekend before but what can we do during the day of New Years? And gift ideas please and thanks
