11 month old won’t self settle

My son is nearly a year old now.

I’ve always struggled getting him to self settle, and had to cuddle and rock him to sleep, but now he’s too heavy for me to do that.

At first when he was a newborn I’d cuddle him every Time I could, but then as he got older he’s become even more clingy. It got to the point of me having to rock him in my arms.

I can’t physically carry him around anymore so I’ve resorted to getting him to sleep but rolling him about in his pram.

He seems to be better at settling by himself now but his crib is next to my bed and took the front bar off, which has resulted in my partner having to spend most nights on the sofa.

I’m torn, because I don’t want to put his bar back on his bed in case that just causes more trouble than what it’s worth.

I just need some advice of what I can do.
