Fetal Doppler safe?

So I bought a fetal Doppler and I do love it! I use it often just for reassurance due to a recent miscarriage. It just makes me feel so much better when I heart my baby’s heartbeat. I am starting to read that they really aren’t safe?? Is this true??... 😮 Anyone have any input on these things?

Dopplers are not meant to be used for reassurance, midwives are trying to stop this as it can cause a lot of problems. They should be used by a professional. Some women were using them for reassurance and once they heard the heart beat they would think all was ok and not get checked for reduced movements etc causing stillbirth or other problems. They have just about been taken off sale from shops in the uk now.

They’re not safe in the sense that 1) they can cause unnecessary panic and 2) they can give false reassurance, detecting a heartbeat does not mean the baby is ok. Waste of money in my opinion. 
Medical advice in the UK advising against their use unless your a midwife/doctor.

After a mmc it's all I wanted but was told the risks outweigh the benifits by my midwife.

Mine should be arriving today.
I think it’s fine as long as you’re not using it like every day all day. 🤷🏼‍♀️
And its not like I’ll be replacing my doctor with it. I’ll still be going to every appointment for every check up. This is just something to soothe some anxiety I have, and connect with baby. Not a big deal either way in my opinion.

A lovely lady I know, went for her midwife appointment at 16 weeks heard the ‘baby’s heart beat’ she was happy few days later she gave birth, the baby had stopped growing and passed 4 weeks ago.. the midwife didnt get the right heart beat and should have picked up that the baby had passed but she didn’t. They are useless and honestly it’s not worth the risk x

I was told that it senses the same waves as an ultrasound, which is why it’s not encouraged to do it often. I also read that you can get a false heart beat, which is actually the umbilical cord pulsating. I use a home Doppler. I only use 2 times a week. To help my daughter sort of listen and bond.

They’re safe. I used for both pregnancies with both healthy babies. They helped ease my anxiety after my miscarriage

I use mine once a week and I love it.  My midwife has no problem with me using it.  I’ve never panicked when baby is being a trickster either though.  It’s early and they move all over the place.

I’ve never purchased one and would not. My pregnancy is high-risk so I have to have monthly ultrasounds plus (at this point) biweekly appointments where the Doppler is used. The uncertainty of the effect of ultrasound waves is enough for me to only do what is medically necessary. But every woman has a different comfort level with these sorts of things so it’s a personal decision.

Was told by my OB do not waste money on them. We don't know what we are listening for. Glad I never wasted money on it.
