How many words does your 17 month old say?

My daughter is 17 months old and is talking a lot or so I thought. I looked up how many words they should be saying by 18 months and it said 68 or something like that. I wrote down all the words she says and she says 47 words and 8. Sentences. Is this enough? Her doctor never said anything about not talking enough. Should I express my concerns with her?

My son didn’t say that many words at 18 months but now that he’s 2.5 he won’t stop talking 😂 he repeats everything I say and is definitely on track where he should be. I wouldn’t worry.

By the age of 2, your child should know atleast 50 words and "begin"( emphasis on its OK not put sentences together yet) to put 2-3 word sentences together. Im an early childhood teacher, and a speech pathologist gave me this piece of information🙂

My 21 month old says loads, but none of them real words apart from duck! I've never thought it a problem. She understands everything we say, she just can't say it back yet.

Every child is so different, and one does not learn at the same pace as another. My two children are very different from each other. If your child has a learning disability or speech impairment, your child's doctor will tell you or you will figure it out eventually and get a confirmation from the doctor or speech therapist. My daughter could speak sentences by 1.5 and speak clearly, and my son was not talking until 2.5. He is 5 now and only last year did we truly realize he has a speech impediment. He is learning just fine otherwise but he does need speech therapy.

Yes definitely discuss with Dr if you are concerned. My daughter didn't say much at that age and at her 18 month check up she recommended a program called first steps that we have in my area. It was a great decision to talk to the Dr and to do this program it has done wonders with my daughter.
