Is the bible a work of fiction or nonfiction?

Just a general question... Since I'm curious.

I think the Bible is like tall tales. Some elements may be true, but exaggerated or done flare added. It's also, to me, stories passed down. The original could've been one story and now it's another or things added. Also with translating it could've been a little misconstrued from the original. 
I'm not religious. That is just how I view the Bible.

Fiction in that the stories made up could very easily be someone who was high on some herbs and heard a burning bush speaking to them (I’m almost convinced Moses discovered Marijuana but that’s a different story 🤣🤣) 
And non fiction in that it is a historical book and there have been scientific findings that date back during the times of the Bible. Does that mean the timelines in the Bible are right? No but fact remains, there have been archeological findings confirming people and stories of the biblical times. 
What I think the Bible is, is a combination of journals.each book is said to be written by each of the prophets (John Paul Matthew etc) that being said, the Bible has been translated and re written over 1000s  of times. For all we know the original Hebrew text are nothing more than a census or autobiography of some sort

The full bible has been translated into 670 languages, and the New Testament has been translated into over 1500 languages. Remember that game we played in elementary school where you’d start off with a sentence then have to repeat that to the next person, and by the end of the line of people the sentence spoken would be completely different? Same concept with the Bible in my opinion. Could be maaaaany many many fictitious facts.

I believe the bible to be true, and not by blind faith. If you look back on ancient history and the tales of different cultures, the stories line up, i.e, the flood from the Bible and the flood from the Epic of Gilgamesh, there is also proof of said event in the rings of trees (sycamore I believe). This is just one example of many events from the Bible that has been supported by other cultures and physical proof.

I’m Christian so I believe there’s truth in all of it. That being said, a lot of it isn’t an exact, factual detailed list of what happened, but rather a story. 
A lot of it is metaphors, parables, and proverbs. Those were never meant to be factual truths, but more spiritual truths. 
Most of it was also written for a time when people didn’t have the knowledge we have today. So it shouldn’t all be taken literally or followed today. It should be read through the lenses of today’s world and applied to a more modern understanding.
A good example of this is eating kosher. I LOVE the rules of eating kosher. It might seem silly today (why does God care if I eat bacon?) but consider back then. Back then, humans didn’t know about germs, bacteria, and parasites found in food. Do you know that their customs of only wearing certain materials, only eating certain things prepared a specific way and their obsession with keeping clean protected them from sooooo many diseases and health issues? It’s pretty dang amazing. (Look up how kosher Jews survived the Black Plague... and also how they were treated because of it 😬) Nowadays, we follow basic hygiene and have food safety standards that mean eating kosher isn’t needed anymore, and we aren’t going to die for wearing mixed clothes.
